環境医学について考えてみよう

菅沼成文（Narufumi Suganuma）

1968年長崎県生まれ。香川県立高松高等学校卒業。岡山大学医学部卒業。岡山大学大学院医学研究科（社会医学専攻公衆衛生学（主任：武田和久教授））修了。博士（医学）。専門は産業医学、公衆衛生学。99年より福井医科大学（現福井大学医学部）。07年より准教授。07年11月より高知大学医学部教授（医療学講座予防医学・地域医療学分野（環境医学））。08年4月より組織改変により高知大学教育研究部医療学系医学部門教授（教室は同じ）となった。10年4月より高知大学副学長（研究担当）を兼任。日本産業衛生学会専門医、指導医。

主な研究テーマは、職業性呼吸器病の放射線医学的分類、アスベストばく露者のCT検診、産業保健一般（人間工学、メンタルヘルス）、職場や地域社会での環境因子と健康・疾病との関係を探求する環境医学（昔の衛生学）を専門としている。日本で2名しかいない米国NIOSH B reader（じん肺読影医Bリーダー）。ILOじん肺専門家として、じん肺のILO分類についての読影講習を特にアジア諸国で行っている。タイにはほぼ毎年1，2回訪問している。国際保健を志して衛生公衆衛生を選択したが、いわゆる国際保健をやっていないのにもかかわらず、大学院時代から諸外国の保健医療にずっと関わっている。現在の専門も国際労働衛生かもしれない。

外国では名前が長く発音しにくいのでFumiと呼ばれている。ー昨年亡くなった祖母の名前と同じで、且つ、アフリカのある言語では神の恩寵という意味らしく気に入っている。名前の通り本を読むのが好きで、サスペンスのpaperbackもよく読んでいる。内村鑑三の「代表的日本人」(Kanzo Uchimura. "Representitive Man of Japan")、西郷南洲遺訓を愛読する。忠臣蔵が大好き。行動や発言はAmericanizeされているのにかなり古風。好きな作家は池波正太郎、藤沢周平、塩野七生、Robin Cook, Tess Gerritsen, Jeffrey Archerなど。文字だけで極彩色の物語を何百万人もの読者の頭の中に展開させることのできる作家のstorytellingの技術にいつも感嘆している。Jared Diamonds を読むようにと米国の友人から言われているが中々読みきれない。

His scope of interestincludes medical screening of occupational environmental respiratory diseases using radiography and CT, computer assisted diagnosis of lung diseases by CT, ergonomic intervention in workplaces, mental health, other occupational and environmental disorders. A US NIOSH B reader.
