I love everything Japan! I love Japanese culture, society, history, people, art, and way of life. My greatest dream is to find a job in Japan and live there. Unfortunately, it will stay a dream forever.

I do not speak Japanese (yet), though I know that my Japanese name is フローリオ の エンツォ.
By chance most certainly, within my family name, " フローリオ", one can find "ローリオ" - a Japanese term that I believe may be roughly translated as "the creative output of the designers".
In fact, design creativity is one of my key professional trait. This is a partial list of systems that I have designed or contributed to design:
- Transformer (https://lirias.kuleuven.be/bitstream/123456789/392514/1/spe-final.pdf) this is a middleware to facilitate the design and management of adaptive software components. It's an evolution of another system that I and a colleague submitted for patenting (https://goo.gl/ZBWKq4).
- ATALK, a decentralized multi-agent platform (http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S095219761300242X) - Situational user-interfaces (embedding quality-of-experience assessment in a user interface; http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S1877050915008923 and https://arxiv.org/ftp/arxiv/papers/1504/1504.03731.pdf)
- Ariel, a programming language that I wrote and that can be used to write error recovery code (scripts that are executed asynchronously when abnormal conditions are detected while executing a distributed system). It is described here: http://win.ua.ac.be/~vincenz/theses/thesis.pdf
- The voting Farm: a library for software voting (https://arxiv.org/abs/1401.2974; the code is available at https://arxiv.org/abs/1610.02288)
- The DIR net, a distributed system for error detection, isolation, and recovery (https://arxiv.org/abs/1504.07281). It makes use of a crash failure detection algorithm that is described here: http://ieeexplore.ieee.org/document/839856/
- I also wrote several distributed algorithms , e.g. http://link.springer.com/chapter/10.1007/BFb0031636 which is currently being used intensively at CISCO systems, Kortrijk, Belgium.
- Currently, I'm very much into image processing. I have recently designed and developed in Visual C++ a large number of software components, including RGB-to-HIS transforms; ratio maps composition; Otsu thresholding; flood-filling (depression-filling and watershed-labeling for digital elevation models); image segmentation of B/W images via run-length encoding and of color images via e.g. leap segmentation. I also designed a framework to easily recombine image processing components into complex image processing chains.
- I'm currently also working with complex time series applications in Python and Matlab. The application domain is remote sensing of satellite imagery for, e.g., agriculture.
One of my dreams is being able to work in Japan. This is something I'd like to do there! https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/antifragile-cars-vincenzo-de-florio
